Connect Tuya devices to Optimaatti

Connecting Tuya means giving Optimaatti permission to see and control your Tuya devices. You do this by signing in to your Tuya account — similar to signing in with Google on another service. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.

Quick guide — 7 steps

  1. Open the Tuya or Smart Life app on your phone and check that your devices appear there.
  2. Open the Optimaatti app and go to Settings → Integrations.
  3. Select Tuya and press "Connect" (or "Reconnect" if you have connected before).
  4. Your browser opens the Tuya sign-in page. Sign in with the same account that has your devices.
  5. Select the devices you want to share with Optimaatti and press accept.
  6. Return to Optimaatti and press "Sync".
  7. After this you should see: your devices appear in the device list and the connection status shows "active".

Before you start

You need three things

  • -A Tuya or Smart Life account where your devices already appear. If you are unsure, open the Tuya/Smart Life app on your phone and check.
  • -An Optimaatti account. If you do not have one yet, register at app.optimaatti.fi.
  • -A browser or phone where you do the entire connection from start to finish in one go (do not switch tabs during the process).

The most common mistake — and how to avoid it

Always use the same Tuya or Smart Life account that already contains your devices. The number one reason for failure is accidentally signing in with a different account than the one the devices were originally added to.

You do not need to enter any MQTT settings for Tuya devices. The connection happens automatically through this guide — you do not need to know what MQTT means.

Connecting your account step by step

Step 1: Start in Optimaatti

  1. Open the Optimaatti app in your browser or on your phone.
  2. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  3. Select "Tuya" and press "Connect". If you have connected before, the button may say "Reconnect".
  4. Your browser will open the Tuya sign-in page. After this you should see: Tuya's own sign-in page with username and password fields.

Step 2: Sign in and select devices on the Tuya page

  1. Sign in with the same account you use in the Tuya/Smart Life app on your phone.
  2. Select the home or environment you want to share with Optimaatti.
  3. Check the boxes next to the devices you want to share. You can select all or just some.
  4. Press accept. The page will automatically redirect you back to Optimaatti. After this you should see: you are back on the Optimaatti Integrations page.
Complete the entire connection in the same browser tab. If you open a new tab or close the browser during the process, the connection will fail and you will need to start over.

Syncing your devices

Step 3: Sync devices to Optimaatti

When you return to Optimaatti, your devices will not appear automatically yet. You need to press the Sync button once.

  1. You are now on the Optimaatti Integrations page. Find the Tuya connection in the list.
  2. Press "Sync".
  3. Wait 5–15 seconds. The page should update.
  4. After this you should see: the Tuya connection status changes to "active" and devices appear in the device list.

How do you know it worked?

  • -The Tuya connection shows as green and active on the Integrations page.
  • -Devices appear in the device list without errors.
  • -You can open a device and give it a clear name (e.g. "Living room lamp").
  • -You can create your first automation for one of the devices.

What if something goes wrong?

What if the Tuya page says it cannot find the user?

This almost always means you signed in with a different account than the one that has your devices. For example, if you added devices using the Smart Life app and now signed in with a Tuya account — those are different accounts.

  • -Sign out from the Tuya page completely.
  • -Go back to Optimaatti and press "Reconnect".
  • -Sign in with the account that actually has the devices (check the Tuya/Smart Life app on your phone).
  • -If you cannot remember which account has the devices: open the Tuya or Smart Life app on your phone and check which email or phone number is shown in the profile.

What if the connection worked but no devices appear after syncing?

The most likely reason is that you did not select any devices to share when the Tuya page asked you to.

  • -In Optimaatti, press "Reconnect".
  • -This time on the Tuya page: make sure you check the boxes next to your devices.
  • -Accept and return to Optimaatti.
  • -Press "Sync" one more time.

What if the connection breaks in the middle?

This often happens when the browser tab changes or the browser closes during the process. This is not dangerous — just start over.

Start the Connect/Reconnect process from the beginning and complete all steps in the same browser tab without interruptions.

What if devices appear but do not respond to control?

Check that the devices are turned on and connected to WiFi. Open the Tuya/Smart Life app on your phone and test if the device responds there. If the device does not work in the Tuya app either, the issue is with the device's WiFi connection, not Optimaatti.
