General
5Is Optimaatti free?
You can start using the service for free during beta. The beta package lets you test the service with up to 5 devices.
Which devices are supported?
We support devices that can connect to Optimaatti. In practice, Shelly Plus and Pro devices are the most common choice. See the Devices guide for examples.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. The mobile app lets you quickly check status, follow savings and control devices manually.
Does it work without internet?
Partly yes. Backup schedules can store the schedule on the device in advance, so control can continue through a short outage.
Do I need special skills?
No. If you can connect a device to your home network and copy connection details, you can get started.
Installation
4How long does installation take?
The first device usually takes around 5 minutes. Additional devices are often faster once you know the basic steps.
Do I need an electrician?
If the device requires fixed electrical installation, use a qualified electrician. Do not do mains electrical work yourself without the required qualifications.
How do I get device connection details?
Sign in and open the device connection page. Copy the host, port, username and password exactly as shown.
Can I set up Shelly without the Shelly app?
Yes. It is enough to open the device web UI, connect it to your home network and enter the Optimaatti connection details.
Pricing
3Where does price data come from?
Spot prices are fetched automatically from an official source. Next-day prices usually appear in the afternoon.
How often do prices update?
Prices update automatically every day. If the next-day prices are missing for a while, wait a bit and check again.
Does it work with a fixed price contract?
Yes, but the biggest savings benefit comes from spot pricing. With a fixed contract, you can still use schedules, temperature control and other automations.
Savings
3How much can I save?
That depends mostly on what you control. The biggest impact usually comes from heating, water heaters and other flexible loads.
How are savings calculated?
Savings compare your real usage and timing against a comparison model, so you can see whether the timing was cheaper than ordinary use.
When will I see savings?
Often within the first few days. The longer the system runs, the more reliable the savings view becomes.
Security
3Are my devices secure?
Yes. We use encrypted connections (TLS/SSL) and user-level isolation.
Can someone else control my devices?
No. Each user has separate device connection details and only your devices are visible to you.
What if I forget my password?
You can reset your account password by email. You can regenerate the device connection password from the settings page.
Problems
3Device does not appear
Start with the basics: the device is online, device connection is enabled and the Optimaatti connection details were copied correctly. Then wait a moment and refresh the Devices view.
Rules do not work
The most common reason is that the rule is not active or the wrong output was selected. Also check that another rule is not overriding the same device.
Prices do not update
Wait a little first if next-day prices have not been published yet. If the issue continues for a long time, open the Troubleshooting guide.
Predictive heating and temperature
5Do I need predictive heating or is a simple price rule enough?
Start with a simple price rule for straightforward loads such as a water heater. Choose predictive heating when you want to keep room temperature comfortable while also saving money.
Should I start with Learning/Shadow?
Often yes. It is a safe way to see how the system predicts before you allow it to control automatically.
What is 2R2C and when should I use it?
It is a more detailed temperature model for slow-reacting systems such as floor heating. Most users do not need to start with it.
Can my home get too cold with predictive heating?
No, as long as you set sensible limits. You define the minimum temperature and predictive heating stays within those boundaries.
Does predictive heating work with a fixed price contract?
Yes, but the biggest financial benefit comes with spot pricing. With a fixed contract, the benefit is more about smoother and smarter heating.
